I can’t believe it’s February this weekend! I mentioned that yesterday and my sister said, “Don’t say things like that!” as if my not saying it is going to prevent February from coming, haha.
Before we all start freaking about our February worries, let’s reflect on the wonderful things in January. Here’s my list of 10 things in January that made me smile.
My foam roller
I started going to physiotherapy again in December (holy crap do I LOVE physiotherapy! I could write a whole post on why I love it) and she told me I just needed to roll out my I.T. band to help my pain. Firstly, I cursed the foam roller because it hurts SO BADLY. Secondly, I used it and, wouldn’t you know it, it’s been helping with my pain! Shocker.
Specifically overnight oats that I heat up in the morning. There’s something about a warm breakfast on a chilly and dark January morning that makes things better. P.S. Speaking of dark mornings, I’m pretty sure one of the things that makes me smile in February or March is going to be about not eating breakfast in the dark because of the sun rising earlier.
My podcast app
Man do I ever love this app. It is a life saver on my hour long commute to one of my jobs. And I am getting so much out of all these podcasts! Seriously, you all need to pop in some headphones, listen, learn, and make your life better. Updated list of my favourite podcasts to come…
Impromptu drinks with friends
I’m working three jobs right now, at weird non-corporate job hours, so seeing my friends has become rather scarce these days. So when I have the energy to meet up one evening for a drink and see the lovely people that I call my friends and consider family, it’s a good day!
My winter coat
We were having a freakishly warm January, and then winter hit again. Big time. But luckily I have the best winter coat ever. Yes, be jealous.
I feel like I’m progressing at work, that I’m learning and becoming more valuable and getting more recognized by clients and building my brand. Much of this is due to the support and guidance of employers who believe in me, for which I am super grateful.
Right now I’m reading 50 Books That Changed The World and Sarum. Both are delightful. I’m so happy to be back reading again. One of my 18 goals for 2018 (thanks Happier Podcast) is to read 12 books.
Unravel Your Year 2018
Since I mentioned the new year, I tried out a workbook my Susannah Conway. You might have seen me mention it in this Instagram post. In it, I reflected on 2017 and thought about what I wanted 2018 to look like. It was meditative and I made some really interesting headway on how I saw myself and my goals. Wanna try it out?
This was a gift from a student (thank you!!!) and I look forward to using this luscious lotion each night. Lavender is my favourite scent – probably because it’s meant to ease stress – so I make a big deal out of putting this stuff on.
The lonely snowman lawn ornament light I saw the other day
Winter is depressing because the sun goes on vacation for the northern half of the hemisphere! That’s why we love Christmas lights. And it’s sad when we take our Christmas lights down when there are still 3-4 months of winter darkness left. I vote we all have non-Christmasy but very wintery lights that we can leave up for the whole 6 months so we can still have some magic and sparkle brightening those long cold nights. Who’s with me?
