You may or may not have noticed that a couple months ago I was trying out a wellness challenge that had me doing anything but look at my phone first thing everyday. I called it the First Thing Phone Free challenge and it was my attempt to break the habit of using the little blue light in my phone to wake me up.
I am happy to say that I have been successful in breaking that habit, and I think with these tricks, you too can stop using the little blue light to wake you up. Yeah, that got infomercial-y.
Here are some of the things you can do to wake up naturally.
Wash your face
This is really all about the shock factor. You know that feeling of jumping into really cold water and you feel about 10 times more awake because your skin feels like it’s on fire? Think that, but for your face.
Stretch, do some yoga, or workout
To be honest, I prefer working out in the evening (that’s years of after school dance classes for ya), but I am a big fan of doing some cat-cow in the morning. There’s nothing like just getting your body moving to help it wake up naturally. You could even do some yoga poses in bed if you’re really struggling!
Wakes you up, and it’s good for you! I find having a glass of water in the morning is really refreshing. It wakes up my taste buds, too, getting me all prepped for some good eating.
If you have time, read!
This one is my favourite. On my sleep-in days, I love opening my eyes and reaching for a good book to ease me into the day. It’s a good way for me to gauge if I’m really ready to wake up, or if I should try to get a little more shut eye. Super pro tip: If you don’t have the energy to read in bed in the morning, you shouldn’t be scrolling on your phone in bed in the morning.
And that’s all, folks! Give these tricks a try for a more natural wake up. If you have any other suggestions, let me know!
Keep being awesome!
