So you want to find a new creative hobby? Or maybe you want to return to an old one? But you don’t want to break the bank? I got you! Here are seven free creative hobbies you can try out today!
Learn photography through Instagram.
Most of us have a smartphone and Instagram is a free app! Take that opportunity to explore photography. Instagram itself has editing tools, but there are also a ton of free apps for editing photos that you can use to make yourself feel like a real photographer.
Become a writer by taking out that pen and paper.
Or use the notes app on your smartphone. Or use your laptop. Besides that one tool you already have, all you need to become a writer is your imagination. Try out some poetry, or write a story, or start a free blog!
Explore interior design by rearranging your furniture and décor.
See if you have the gift for making spaces look good. What happens when you move that chair to the other side of the room? Do you feel like you’ve tapped into an unknown love for interior design? Or maybe you just feel tired from unnecessarily moving a piece of furniture… Well, at least you tried!
Learn how to dance on YouTube.
You don’t have to take a dance class to learn how to dance! (Although, I will always recommend it if you can.) There are free resources on the internet. All you need is a little bit of space and you’re ready to get your groove on.
Become an artist by making pictures from everyday objects.
Did anybody else watch that TV show Art Attack in the 90s? The host was this British artist who, before every commercial, would go out into a big field with a ton of clothing or kitchen items or whatever and create a ginormous image – a mosaic made from everyday items. You can find lots of images like this on Instagram too.
Hone your eye for detail by arranging your photos into an album.
Maybe you already have a photo album that needs sprucing up. Maybe you just need to print a few photos really quickly before you get started. But then you can find a scrapbook or even just a notebook and get to work creating a beautiful photo album. Bonus points if you get creative with scissors and stickers and make a scrapbook!
Ask a friend or family member with a creative hobby to teach you!
The internet isn’t the only place rich with knowledge. Ask a buddy if they can teach you how to knit, or how to draw, or sew, etc. If you ask them really nicely, they’ll probably say yes.
