It’s National Compliment Day! That might be a U.S.A. thing, but I’m going to ride the wave. Because compliments are good! And they make people feel good. And it feels good to give a compliment. There’s a lot of goodness with the whole compliment thing, okay?
But in case you didn’t know these things, I thought I’d compile a list of do’s and don’t’s to keep in mind with the compliment situation:
Do say thank you when someone compliments you!
Don’t throw a compliment back in someone’s face by denying it and beginning to bash yourself.
Do give compliments freely!
Don’t give a compliment if you don’t mean it.
Do compliment someone’s work and ideas.
Don’t compliment someone’s weight. Just don’t go there, even if you mean well.
Do be mindful of how often you compliment people based on their appearance.
Don’t give a backhanded compliment.
Do go out of your way to give a compliment, such as through a phone call, email, a note, whatever – it will mean so much.
Don’t assume someone’s compliment is untrue – you have good qualities!
Do take a compliment to mean just what it says and take the time to appreciate it.
Here’s a challenge for you: give a random compliment today! Make somebody feel good!
Thank you so much for reading!
