May Long. Victoria Day. Long weekend. Three days of fun in the sun.
Here in Saskatchewan, the May long weekend, or Victoria weekend (named after England’s Queen Victoria) is a real toss up for weather. The past few weeks have been alternating between summer vibes and rainy darkness. You just don’t know what to expect around here.
In any case, there are tons of ways to have the best May long weekend, rain or shine.
Open up the cabin at the lake, baby!
May long = the start of lake season. Say hello to the smell of fresh air, the sound of leaves whistling in the trees, and the sight of the rippling lake on a calm dark night. If you don’t own your own cabin, I give you full permission to mooch off your friends (that’s what I do), or see if you can rent a cabin or go camping at a lakeside property. Which brings me to…
It may be chilly in May, but most of us are pretty used to the cold. Again, we have to welcome the summer season by immersing ourselves in nature. If you don’t have your own tent, mooch off your friends. Are you starting to see a pattern here?
Eat campfire food
Am I the only person in the world who loves the smell of campfire smoke on her clothes? Seriously, I’ll hold off on washing those clothes for as long as possible… ANYWAYS! Nothing says the start of summer like campfire food. I’m talking about roasted weiners, hamburgers, homemade pizza pops, smores, what have you. Aaaaand if it’s too rainy for a campfire, these snacks are indoor friendly (just assemble your smore before microwaving it and you’re good to go)!
Enjoy an outdoor ice cream
There’s this ice cream store in my city that lives in an old double decker bus. It is the epitome of summer to me. I intend to grab a cone there this weekend.
There are, of course, so many more ways to have the best May long weekend, but I personally hate reading crazy long lists online, so I’m going to assume you do, too. Instead, I’m going to encourage you to have an awesome day, have the best weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Tuesday.
Keep spreading good vibes!
