Ah, major life changes. Life can be funny sometimes, throwing stuff at you that you never in a million years would have thought would happen to you.
Due to some circumstances in my life, I find myself going through a major life change that I wouldn’t have picked for myself. But that’s the way it goes, I guess. I could choose to fight it (and I sort of did for a bit), or I could choose to work with it and make it work in my favour.

How to Deal
The first step to dealing with a life change is to let yourself feel your emotions. Everybody needs some reaction time. This might look like denial, disbelief, grief, anxiety, celebration, pride, any number of emotions.
After that comes the decision on how to move forward. Will you go with grace or kicking and screaming? Are you going to wing it, or are you going to make a plan?
Once you’ve decided to move forward, you might be able to find the good in a situation. For me, my big life change felt like everything I had worked for was getting tossed out the window, but then I realized it was an opportunity to go for a dream that I hadn’t yet been able to give 100%.
Maybe you can turn your situation around to your advantage? Is your big life change actually a secret gift like mine? Maybe the good in your situation is simply a moment of gratitude for what’s been.
Why Change is Good
As I write ‘change is good’ I can feel my face scrunch up like I’m smelling sour milk. Nobody likes change. Change is the worst! It forces you out of your comfort zone and brings you into the unknown.
But that’s part of why change is good. It forces you out of your comfort zone – it’s true that nothing gets done inside your comfort zone.
Change prevents you from getting stagnant. Do you really want to be stagnant? Like a smelly, mosquito-ridden pool of water? Blech.
No, change is good for you. It helps you grow, it gives you a challenge, it keeps you moving, it gets you out of your comfort zone where nothing truly happens.
Am I scared about my major life change? Yup. But if I give it my all and work it out to my advantage, there is the possibility that it could be one of the greatest things that happened to me.
