This past weekend I drove out to Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan for a ballroom dance at the local dancehall. Manitou Beach is a funny village in that it’s a tiny place in the middle of the Canadian prairie, but it’s still a popular tourist destination. Its secret? Standing next to a dead sea in the middle of the country that has a salt density so high, swimmers cannot help but float effortlessly. It’s a bit of an enigma.
I know Manitou Beach for its dancehall – Danceland. The dance floor there is cushioned with horsehair, which makes for a softer experience out there. Dancing there was so much fun.
Even though we visited in the middle of winter, driving into Manitou Beach was breathtaking. You turn the corner and find yourself at the top of a hill looking down into the village, and at the bottom of the hill, beyond the village is the lake, and beyond that are the hills that line the valley. I, foolishly, did not take pictures, so you’ll just have to take my word that it was beautiful and you should just go see it for yourself. There are plenty of places to stay and lots of things to do.
I bet I’ll be back there sometime soon to have a longer and more in-depth visit.
Has anybody else been to Manitou Beach?
