It’s time to share some happy vibes and tell you all about the wonderful podcasts I’m listening to these days! If you want to check out my Podcasts I Love list from last year, check this out.
The History Fangirl Podcast
I minored in history in university, and I love travel, so this podcast is perfect for me. The host – an American ex-pat living in Sofia, Bulgaria – regularly interviews experts from around the world and asks them to share stories about different cities, landmarks or countries. Some of my favourite episodes have covered the Boston witch trials and Iceland’s Thingvelir. I’m looking forward to listening to the next episode, which is called “The Literary Pubs of Dublin.” That’s the English major in me geeking out.
Levar Burton Reads
Speaking of being an English nerd… Levar is back! But instead of telling children’s stories, he is reading short fiction and it is amazing! As an aspiring writer, listening to this podcast has really helped me understand how vast the short story form is – there are new worlds, magical things happening in normal life, multiple story lines weaving around each other. Listening to this podcast is making me more open as a writer. Plus, it’s great to listen to contemporary works.
The Mo’ Money Podcast
Canadian money podcast! Yes! It was actually in the fall of 2017 that I thought to myself, “Heather, you need to get your financial life together.” It wasn’t that I was out of control or completely broke or anything, I just didn’t have a clue. So to get one (a clue, that is) I looked up Canadian financial blogs and I stumbled upon Jessica Moorhouse. Turned out she had a podcast, and I immediately subscribed. She talks about credit cards, investing, saving for retirement, and shares listener stories, all with a Canadian spin.
HerMoney with Jean Chatzky
While I’m talking about money podcasts, Jean Chatzky’s is the first I started listening to. She was actually a guest on Happier with Gretchen Rubin (which was on my Podcast I Love 1.0 list) and she had some great things to say about finances and womanhood. I particularly like Jean because she is so incredibly reasonable, which allows her to have conversations with her guests on touchy topics. And she has crazy awesome guests.
Happier in Hollywood
Co-hosted by one of the co-hosts of Happier with Gretchen Rubin (I know, it’s all very confusing), this podcast takes us into the lives of two TV writers in Hollywood who are trying to live happy lives in a superficial world. These two hosts are so funny and so sarcastic (I really need to be friends with them) yet they still have really great things to say about happiness and wellness.
Harry Potter and the Sacred Text
For the grand finale!!! I am IN LOVE with this podcast. And yes, Millennials are still doing Harry Potter things – it’s a timeless tale that we can learn so much from, as demonstrated by this podcast. Hosts Vanessa and Casper explore the text one chapter at a time through a different theme each episode. Different themes have included beginnings, masculinity, love, imagination, hospitality, rumours and so much more. The podcast has discussed topics such as racism, child abuse, and mental health, some of which are pretty obvious and others not so much. Throw in the fact that I always laugh out loud at least once during this podcast (I also need to be friends with these hosts, too…) and you’ve got a great thing here.

Comment any podcasts you’re listening to, or that you think I need to listen to!
Keep spreading good vibes!
