Every September I write out my schedule of all the things I’ll be involved with for the term or whole year. Everything is written on a single sheet of paper – mundane stuff like classes, work, rehearsals, all that. But seeing all the things I’m part of on that sheet of paper just gets me so excited for what’s to come. There’s all this potential, just simmering, waiting to burst into something great.
So, in honour of September and all the potential it brings, here are some things I’m excited about that are coming in the next year:
I’m taking ballroom dancing lessons!
Yes, that certainly requires an exclamation point. Having grown up learning ballet, jazz, tap, etc, I am always ready to learn another dance style. Plus, I get to learn alongside my SO and a couple of our close friends.
I’m in a musical!
Ah, community theatre. That’s where the magic happens. I’ve been part of my local community theatre company for five years now. This fall, I’ll be playing Lucy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. It’s my first lead role with the company, so I’m pretty excited to show everyone what I’m made of. Plus, who doesn’t love getting to be crabby and mean without the backlash of people hating you? That’s what theatre’s for, people. Oh, and the passion for the arts and making friends and all that…
I like the work I’m doing! I’m teaching dance, and I’m teaching a parent/child music class. These are things I’m really passionate about, and I’m so excited that I get paid to do them!
I feel extremely lucky that there are so many things in my life right now that I’m excited about. They may make me really busy, and they may each provide their own amount of stress, but they make me happy. I hope you guys out there can find something to be excited about right now, whether it’s a new year at school, a class you’re taking, or a club you’ve joined.
To September, the month of potential!
