Hey friends. Just pausing to reflect on the lovely little things in life. If a daily gratitude journal isn’t your thing, you might want to try reflecting once a week, or once a month, or every season. It always feels really nice to take a moment to think about the small things that make life good. Here are some things that made me smile this summer.
I’m pretty sure ice cream has made it onto a bunch of my blog posts. What can I say, it tastes good and it’s the epitome of summer. Going out for an ice cream cone means that I’m having a slow day and that I’m spending time with people I love.
I live in a place where the period during which you can comfortably wear a dress is really short. I would say 4 months, max. Some years it might be shorter. But the fleetingness of summer dress weather makes it extra special. Summer dresses mean warm weather, carefree days, and relaxed vibes.
Outdoor pools and spray parks.
Ever spent a day at the pool in the middle of the city, alternating between swimming, lying on a beach towel in the grass with a good book, and playing catch? What a great day! Especially on those truly sweltering ones.
One of my favourite parts of summer is going out walking and getting my feet a little wet at the spray parks around the city. Quick relief from the heat!
Lazy days with friends.
Summer days are long in Canada, stretching from 5am to 10pm. The sun never seems to want to leave. Having those incredibly long days paired with the heat makes for some fun lazy days surrounded by those you love. Start with an outdoor breakfast, beat the heat with water sports, keep the day going with a campfire that lasts all the way from dinner to dark.
And when the heat is just too much, wait until after dinner for the day to cool and go for an evening walk. You can go for a long time when you’re not fighting with the sun and sweat. And you get the watch as the sun sets and the colours in the sky fade from pinks and yellows to a dark, star-filled sky.
What have been some of your favourite parts of summer?
