One of my 18 resolution/goals for 2018 (see what I did there?) is to go on one awesome trip. I’m telling you, team, the travel bug bit me real good.
I am happy to say that I have already gone on the big Europe trip that I had dreamed of since I was a kid. Maybe a post describing that trip will get written another day…
For now, here’s my bucket list of trips!
Road Trip Across Canada
I suppose the driving-across-the-2nd-largest-country-in-the-world part isn’t mandatory, but I do want to make a point of seeing as much of Canada as I can. As a Canadian citizen, I feel like it’s my patriotic duty to at least be able to say that I’ve visited each province and territory, if it’s within my means. Right now I’m at 7/10 provinces and 0/3 territories.
Actually, part of what I want to do on this hypothetical road trip is get as many pictures as possible with various “World’s Biggest” things. You know, “World’s Biggest Moose” in Moose Jaw, SK, “World’s Biggest Perogy” in Glendon, AB (I haven’t seen that one, but my interest is super peaked!)… I think that would make a great scrap book.
I keep seeing beautiful videos of various countries in Eastern Europe and reading about the hidden gems all of those countries are, so I’m thinking why not? There’s nature, history, culture, all the things that I look for in a great trip.
It just seems like a great place to get a mix of history and modern culture. You could spend the morning visiting a Shinto Shrine, and then spend the afternoon at an epic arcade, all while exploring the Japanese twist on western culture. It sounds like a ridiculously fun time.
This one might have to wait for some time, but I so so so badly want to see Russia. Their political history intrigues me so much, I want to see the Kremlin, I want to see their take on ballet, I want to listen to their music, I want to visit St. Petersburg and sing “Have you heard there’s a rumour in St. Petersburg…” (Anastasia fans? Anyone?) I once listened to an English student, who got to go to Russia on a scholarship, describe her time there and I was so insanely envious as she told her amazing stories of the beauty of the place and all the things she learned there.
Spain (in more detail)
I’ve been to Spain once already, but it remains on my bucket list because we only saw a little of it, and I had such a wonderful time there. We saw Barcelona, Madrid, Cordoba, and Toledo, but there are so many more cities to see, so much time to be spent there, so many more things to do.
I’ve also been to Scotland before, and also felt like it wasn’t enough time. We only caught a glimpse of the highlands, didn’t get a chance to see Glasgow or Aberdeen. I would love to go back and spend more time hiking and exploring.
So that’s my short bucket list. Of course, if an opportunity arises for me to go somewhere else, I’m probably going to just say yes because the world has so much to offer. Thanks for letting me bombard you with my personal dreams rather than with anything useful to you.
What are your travel dreams?
