I know I’m a little late to the spin class party, but I recently took my first class ever and decided it was something that needed to be shared. Overall, I had a great time! But the journey was insane and went a little something like this…
Excitement for a new thing
Trying out new workouts is really exciting. Everything is fresh, and I usually go in with very few expectations, so it’s really difficult for me to not have a good time. Getting ready for this spin class, the air was buzzing with energy from the other students, and I was ready to go!
Jazzed about the beat
Right off the bat, the instructor explained that we cycle to the beat of the music and all I could think was, “YES, THIS IS MY JAM!”
Death to my thighs. Not exactly a surprise, but still a test of will all the same.
What are all these terms?
What’s the difference between race and sprint? What does arrow mean? What did you just say about my arms? Where is my butt supposed to be? Oh, the struggle…
How are you sprinting???
I gotta say, the instructor for this class was FIT. I mean, Instagram athlete fit. Her legs were whipping around in circles and she was chatting to us like it was no big deal. “Sprint for 30 seconds!” Howwwwww…
Yeah, I’m back with the music – oh. She’s going double-time.
Remember when I was all excited about cycling to the beat at the beginning of class? Yeah, that bombed real fast. But then I got back into it, and I was stoked. And then I realized the instructor was going twice as fast as me. Cue jaw drop.
Yes, arm time! Thank you!
Two entire songs of just working out our arms while we do a gentle cycle with our legs. That was so appreciated.
I can’t do it!!!
“I don’t have another six minutes of hard cycling in me! Go on without me, please!!! When is the cool down?” I’m such a baby sometimes.
I did it!!!
Victory! I survived! I’m a beast! I’m amazing! Seriously, finishing spin class felt like a major feat. And I felt like I really earned that complimentary cold, damp, lavender-scented face cloth.
Did that journey encourage or discourage you from trying a spin class? I plan to go again, despite the struggle. It’s definitely worth it, and a whole lot of fun. Any other suggestions for a workout I should try?
Keep spreading smiles! And be awesome!
